Over 200 people from 37 countries will gather at the West Park conference centre at the University of Dundee for the 19th Dundee Biennial Conference on Numerical Analysis.
Professor J M Sanz-Serna who holds an MSc degree from the Department of Mathematics and who is presently Principal of the University of Valladolid in Spain, will be the after dinner speaker at the conference dinner on 28 June in West Park Hall.
The latest research in numerical analysis will be presented with applications ranging from pattern formation in biology through financial mathematics to computational issues in oil and gas extraction. The conference opens with the A R Mitchell lecture which this year is given by Professor A Iserles of Cambridge University. There will be 13 other invited talks, 124 short submitted talks and 12 poster presentations.
Conference organisers David Griffiths and Alistair Watson of the Department of Mathematics have organised all the conferences in this series since 1977. They said: "We are looking forward to a hectic but mathematically rewarding week."
