Jonathan Longman, a law and languages student at the University of Dundee has just won a £1800 Stevenson Scholarship to attend a Spanish University next session.
Jonathan, who is from Ballymena, said: "I am very happy and proud to be receiving this generous award". He is hoping to attend Jaen University, near Granada, a student exchange partner of the University of Dundee law department.
Jonathan is one of the best young moto-cross riders in the country, coming 2nd in the all-Ireland schoolboy championship, 2nd in the Ulster schoolboy championship, and 8th in the British championship last year. Dundee University Students' Association supports Jonathan in competition with grants from their Competitive Support Fund.
Stevenson Scholarships were set up by Sir Daniel Stevenson, a Glasgow merchant and Lord Provost. He also created professorships in London University, and was passionately interested in promoting international understanding. The Scholarships are intended to help students be ambassadors of goodwill.
