Pat Fullerton, a janitor at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, is retiring on 22 June after 16 and a half years at the University of Dundee.
At the age of 15, Pat left St John's Secondary school to follow a one year career in hatmaking in Dundee. Tempted by the call of the Merchant Navy, Pat travelled the seas for 10 years seeing such sights as Sydney Bridge, Empire State Building, Panama Canal, Table Mountain in South Africa and his most memorable port of call Mauritius. Returning to Dundee, Pat took on a job at British Relay, a local TV company which was later taken over by Granada. After 22 years of laying cables and working on TV aerials, Pat changed his career for the third and last time.
In 1984, Pat started working as Janitor based at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. "I have enjoyed working here and am sorry to be leaving, but I suppose you have to go sometime. I've seen so many types of art here in the college and have gained a liking to ceramics."
Married to Eliza for 43 years, Pat has four children, Tricia, Brian, Steven and Caroline, five grand children (Caroline, Angela, Laura, Kevin and Jack) and one great grand child (Caroline).
A retirement ceremony will be held in the Reception Room at Duncan of Jordanstone at 4pm.
