Over 50 members of the health care profession will be attending the launch of the first Scottish Clinical Skills workshop at the University of Dundee's Clinical Skills Centre, Ninewells on Monday (11 June).
Dr Jean Ker,clinical lecturer in medical education, who first had the idea to form a Scottish network three years ago, will be giving a lecture on simulated patients in clinical skills training for healthcare professionals.
Dr Ker explains: "This workshop is to help patient care throughout Scotland by sharing our experience of clinical skills training. All the participants from the Royal Colleges, from academic institutions, from hospital trusts and postgraduate deaneries are committed to ensuring the quality of training remains of a high standard and is able to develop through shared experience for better patient care."
Dr Graham Buckley, Chief Executive of the Scottish Council for Postgraduate, Medical and Dental Education, who provided sponsorship for the workshop, will be welcoming the delegates.
Other speakers include:
Dr Nicki Moran, University of Stirling, who is in charge of the whole
body simulator in Stirling. This is a highly developed simulator, which
can respond to treatment and is used to train teams of health care workers
often in relation to management of emergency situations.
Professor D Stirrups from Dundee dental school on skills training in dentistry.
In the afternoon there will be workshops on resuscitation skills, using a variety of simulators including HARVEY a manikin whose heart can be programmed to show a range of cardiac symptoms.
