New residences in major campus plan
The University of Dundee has signed a partnership agreement on its student residences today (Monday
5th July) that will see 1,100 en-suite student bedrooms built over the next two years. The deal was
orchestrated by UK Structured Finance Ltd
The partnership with the Bank of Scotland and Sanctuary Housing Association will give the University of
Dundee the best student accommodation in Scotland and allow a release of funds for spending on teaching
and research facilities over the next few years.
Parts of the Belmont hall of residence are being demolished now to make way for new residences and the
University Green where work will start this summer to create an oasis of open space in the middle of the
campus.
"These developments will give us one of the finest city centre campuses in the UK" says David Yule,
Director of Campus Services. "Our campus plan is starting to take shape now and will see fine student
accommodation coupled with new teaching facilities, new research buildings and an ambitious University
Green at the centre of the campus that will transform the University."
Work has now started on the £7 million Applied Computing Building and the £20 million Centre for
Interdisciplinary Research is taking shape. Over the next couple of years £15 million will be spent on
new teaching facilities, £4 million on improving the library and £8 million on enhanced sports
facilities.
