A student whose grades have been amongst the highest achieved in the School of Life Sciences over the last decade has won two prestigious 'best student' awards at the University of Dundee.
Sian Beynon-Jones, 21, who studied Molecular Genetics, was named as the Molecular Biology Degree Board's Best Student of 2003, as well as scooping the overall School of Life Sciences Student of the Year prize. Sian will also receive a First Class Biochemistry degree when she graduates on July 11.
Professor Mike Stark, who taught Sian, said, Her marks have been consistently well above 90% throughout her time at University, which is an outstanding achievement.
For her Honours project, Sian studied a protein involved in the assembly of MHC Class One molecules which are important in the immune system. She now hopes to begin a career as scientific writer.
She said, "I am amazed and delighted that I have been selected as the best student of the year, and it is the nicest possible way to bring my enjoyable time as a student in Dundee to a close.
