A brilliant medical student will take the Hippocratic oath next week as she graduates from the University of Dundee as top of the class with a host of other prizes.
Naveena Thomas (24) from Malaysia has been awarded the class prize for medicine - the Captain W A Low prize and medal. Naveena came top of 139 students in her year to take the top spot.
Naveena also took three other awards in medicine - the Jean Herring prize for the best female student, the MacEwan prize in surgery and the psychiatry prize.
On hearing of her clutch of prizes Naveena said: "I am really really happy. It's always been my dream to do medicine since I was very young. My mum and brother have been very supportive so I have to thank them for my success."
While a student, Naveena helped to organise regular symposiums on tropical medicine for the interest of staff and students in the Department of Medicine.
Naveena's brother who is also a doctor in London will travel up with their mother to join her for graduation day in the Caird Hall on Thursday 11 July.
The top doctor intends to practice general medicine and will spend her first year as a doctor working as a junior house officer in Ninewells hospital.
