Design students from the University of Dundee have made their mark at the New Designers Show in London - winning three first prizes, a second and a handful of commendations.
Gemma Dominick from Dundee won the £1500 first prize in the Hallmark UK Future of Design Award for her graphic design. THE HALLMARK (UK) FUTURE OF DESIGN AWARD FOR ORIGINAL TALENT

Prize: £1,500, 1 month leading possibly leading to a full time position

Judge's Comment: "Gemma demonstrated talent and expertise in a broad variety of styles, media across different projects. Overall demonstrating strong conceptual ability."
Winner's Comment: "It has given me a lot of confidence in the work that I have done. I would love for my work to be recognised within the design industry."
Hayley Smail from Montrose won the £1500 first prize in the Hallmark Tigerprint Future of Design Award for her illustration THE TIGERPRINT HALLMARK FUTURE OF DESIGN AWARD FOR CREATIVITY

Prize: £1,500, 1 months paid placement

Fiona Brown from Kirkcaldy won the £1000 first prize in the Paperhouse Future of Design Award for her specialist illustration in cards and giftwrap. THE PAPER HOUSE FUTURE OF DESIGN AWARD FOR SPECIALIST ILLUSTRATION IN CARDS AND GIFT WRAP

Winning Design: "My Little Star"
Prize: £1,000

Judge's Comment: "An excellent art style with keen appreciation for colour, aspect and balance. A worthy winner!"
Winner's Comment: "This award will, I hope, open a lot of doors for me and help me for the future."
Ellen Kirkhope from Newburgh won the £750 second place in the BT Future of Design Award and was placed in the Hallmark UK award.
The following students also received commendations or placements: Edward Walker from Largs, Stephen Kane (twice) from Glasgow.
The award winning students were among a group of 34 final year students from Dundee who were exhibiting at the New Designers Show - a major event in the design agencies calendar, at which they engage the cream of new talent each year.
Course director David Herbert who accompanied them to the show said: "This clutch of awards demonstrates the talent and ability of our graduates and bodes well for a very successful future. We are very proud of them all."
While in London the students popped out from their show to graduate in a special ceremony laid on for them by the university in a modern art gallery in Canonbury Square, just 20 minutes walk from the New Designers exhibition.
