Identical twin doctors will graduate from the University of Dundee this week to join the family business. Watched by their parents who are also doctors and their younger sister who is studying medicine in Glasgow, Sarah and Summia are graduating with a heap of prizes.
Sarah and Summia Zahar from Paisley have both excelled themselves throughout their medical studies. Graduating with honours, Sarah will pick up the class prize for medicine - the Captain W A Low medal as well as the Jean Herring prize and Summia will lift the Margaret Fairlie prize in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Summia Zahar: "Sarah and I have always done things together and it was her that first suggested we should study medicine like our parents. Both our parents are very committed to medicine and it became a natural choice for us. We're entering the family business and are both really excited about starting work in August."
Sarah said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my five years at the University of Dundee. It is a very friendly city with great staff and students. I'm ecstatic to be honoured by the University with the class prize in medicine."
Sarah will be staying in Dundee working in Kings Cross hospital and practising surgery at Ninewells. Summia is heading homeward to Vale of Leven but will also be visiting her sister in Dundee regularly as she is also taking up a surgical position at Ninewells.
The twins' Mum and Dad, Dr Lyla Hassan and Dr Samir Zahar and their sister Shroque will join the girls for their happy day on Thursday 12 July in the Caird Hall.ENDS
