David Marr, Janitor at the Wellcome Trust Biocentre, and Simon Dowler, a postgraduate student at the University of Dundee will cycle 267 miles from Dundee to Leeds in three days to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
They embark tomorrow from the Wellcome Trust Biocentre covering 128 miles on the first leg from Dundee to Jedburgh. On Thursday they will cycle as far as Newcastle and hope to arrive in Leeds by early Friday afternoon.
Dave has already secured support for the fund-raising event through sponsorship from individuals and organisations. He has been supported by Enterprise Europe Car Hire (Dundee), Roche Diagnostics (UK), Nicholsons Cycling Centre (Dundee) and his uncle who will be driving the support vehicle during the trip. Simon is a postgraduate student in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit based in the Biocentre.
Proceeds raised from the trip will go towards supporting the local RNLI lifeboat station in Broughty Ferry, near Dundee. Donations to the charity cycle ride can be made to Dave Marr at the Wellcome Trust Biocentre. (01382 345828).
