Students to have work displayed in gallery
STUDENTS from Dundee University are taking part in a competition with the winning designs to be displayed in a top Scottish gallery.
The students from the Schools of Architecture and of Interior and Environmental Design were invited by the National Galleries of Scotland to hold a competition to design a seat inspired by the paintings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
120 Year 1,2+4 students competed in the week- long competition and their work will be shown at the Dean Gallery, Edinburgh this week, during the major exhibition, Charles Rennie Mackintosh in France: Landscape Watercolours.
The winning designs will be announced today at noon.
Colin Ross, from the School of Architecture, said Its been a great way to encourage students from different years and disciplines to design together, inspired by the Mackintosh paintings. The opportunity for Dundee students to display their work in the National Galleries of Scotland is fantastic..
Charles Rennie Mackintosh is probably the most well-known architect and designer Scotland has ever produced.
He is most famous for the design work he undertook in and around Glasgow at the turn of the 20th Century and to a lesser degree his work as a watercolour painter. These paintings, which he completed in France from 1924-1927, are currently being exhibited at the Dean Gallery, Edinburgh.
