Photography Winners
Winners of a photography competition designed to showcase research being conducted at the University of Dundee’s Medical school were presented with prizes today. (Thursday)
The striking winning image (shown), produced by John McGhee, a Ph.D. student in School of Television and Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, shows a view of the complex structure of the human kidney. It was generated by combining computer visualisation techniques with magnetic resonance imaging data collected from patients.
The second prize entry, from Dr Andy Irving, a Lecturer in the Division of Pathology and Neuroscience, is a colourful image highlighting neurological receptors important in brain function. Other prizewinning images reflect the diversity of research going on in the Medical School.
The competition, which was open to staff and students within the Medical School, was organised by Dr Jenny Woof, Reader in Immunology in the Division of Pathology and Neuroscience, in collaboration with Dr Wynne Carter, Head of Computing and Media Services and his colleagues. After the exhibition in the foyer of the Tower Building, University of Dundee, the winning images are destined for permanent display in the Medical School.
