Student fashion show to raise money for good causes
Photo opportunity: 6.45pm, Tuesday 25 January, MONO, Dundee University Student Union, Airlie
Place, Dundee
A unique 'fairytale dress collection' designed by a University of Dundee student is just one of
the collections to feature in a student charity fashion show. Over twenty models, all students at
the University will hit the catwalk at next week’s event, organised by the Dundee University
Charities Committee (DUCC).
The fashion show will bring together collections from high street shops as well as one off pieces
from the University’s DJCAD students such as Gillian McLaren's fairytale dresses and Elizabeth
Collen's striking casual - formal mixed dress.
Dundee born Gillian (17) has submitted three creations that make up her collection. Now in her
first year at DJCAD Gillian made the dresses as part of her final year studies at Harris Academy.
She said "The three pieces are based around the idea of three different fairytale characters, the
forest fairy, good fairy and bad fairy. I completed the three pieces last year and this is a
great opportunity to model them again and at the same time raise money for good causes."
Local clothes outlets have also donated clothes for the show including Bay Trading, New Look,
Ozzy's, Bows and Belles and Ann Summers.
Dundee hair salon, BECS Hair and Beauty will close the salon to the public on the afternoon of
the show to concentrate on getting the models hair and make-up ready for the catwalk.
The Charity Committee has raised almost £2000 for good causes since the beginning of 2005 and
hopes to raise a further £750 from the fashion event. Money raised from the show will go to the
University’s Institute of Cardiovascular Research (TICR) based at Ninewells Hospital, Cystic
Fybrosis Trust, Scottish Action for Mental Health and GORTA, an Irish based charity, currently
raising money for the Tsunami appeal.
The fashion show starts at 7pm on Tuesday 25 January in MONO, Dundee University Students Union.
The show is subject to DUSA's normal entry restrictions.
