The University of Dundee has just been told that it has another world first to celebrate but not in science or medicine this time, but as the world record breaker for putting a musical on stage in less than 24 hours.
The University's Music Co-ordinator Graeme Stevenson and Paul Smith of Apex Productions cast, rehearsed and produced "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" in a record 23 hours 30 minutes in the University's Gardyne Theatre.
After a crazy race against the clock, the musical was reported by a critic in the local press and passed the Guinness guidelines on breaking world records. The University of Dundee and Apex Productions will appear in the next edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The cast and band performed before an audience of over 200 and £910 was raised for each of the two benefiting charities, Radio Tay's Caring for Kids and The Institute for Cardiovascular Research (TICR). Grant Reid and Euan Notman from Radio Tay and Robert McLaren of TICR will visit the University on Friday to receive cheques from Graeme and Paul.
Graeme Stevenson and Paul Smith said: "It was an exciting and tense experience for all involved. Right up to the last minute we weren't sure that we would pull it off, but audience support and the dedication of everyone who took part made it a success."
