Searching for Scotland - public lecture

The popular Saturday evening public lecture series continues at the University of Dundee this week with a lecture from a woman responsible for re-introducing Scots to their history through her popular TV series - In Search of Scotland.

Dr Fiona Watson from the University of Stirling will deliver - In Search of Scotland: history and identity in the 21st century at 7pm this Saturday night. Fiona became a well-known figure in Scotland last year when she fronted a ten part overview of Scottish history featuring many distinguished historians including local historian and the University of Dundee's head of history, Professor Chris Whatley who will chair Saturday's lecture.

Fiona Watson is director of the Centre for Environmental History and Policy and a senior lecturer in history at the University of Stirling. She began her academic career as a medieval military and political historian, but her work with eminent historian Professor Smout on the sustainability of Scottish woodlands sparked her interest in environmental history. Her broader research interests include land management and the interaction between people and resources.

The lecture will take place in the Tower extension lecture theatre at 7pm on Saturday 26 January. The series continues the following Saturday with a lecture on forensic investigation into war crimes and human rights abuses by Professor Peter Vanezis, from the University of Glasgow. Chris van der Kuyl, President of VIS entertainment plc and Professor Mark Chaplain who mathematically models cancer growth follow in February. All lectures are free and open to the public./ENDS
