Photographs from around the world go on display
Photographs capturing 40 years of the travelling exploits of University of Dundee lecturer
Richard Carr will be unveiled in a new exhibition at the University's Duncan of Jordanstone College
of Art and Design. On display will be images of his journeys through Europe, Africa and America
including his visit to the permafrost lands of Cape Dorset on the outskirts of the Arctic Circle
where he photographed the local Inuit.
In a poignant reminder that this year is the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz,
visitors to the exhibition can also see Carr’s images of the furnaces used in the Buchenwald
concentration camp.
Shots of 'Checkpoint Charlie' and photographs from Richard’s visit to Graceland, the renowned home
of Elvis Presley are also on display.
Richard Carr joined the University in 1976 as Design Historian following a career in journalism
with Design magazine. This exhibition features images that illustrate some of his articles and
lectures on architecture and design as well as a few photographs taken for fun.
Richard said, "I hope the photographs will make people smile. They are shot to record things
quickly. The photos were taken at places I may never go back to again so as if this was my only
chance to record things first hand."
The exhibition runs from 19 Feb - 19 Mar 2005 in the Bradshaw Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone
College of Art and Design. All welcome. Free admission.
Opening hours Mon - Fri 9.30am - 5.30pm, Sat 9.30am-4.30pm
