Wireless!
Photo opportunity 3.30pm, Wednesday 4 February, University Library, University of Dundee.
An innovative project that will see students being able to log in to their tutors' comments online from a
laptop anywhere on campus will be launched tomorrow making the University of Dundee one of the leaders in
student technology in Scotland.
The pilot project starting in the University library will allow students to log into the internet and virtual
learning environment from anywhere in the library via a laptop but with no wires to the wall. The pilot will
run until Easter.
If successful and popular this technology will be implemented across the University over the next few years
allowing students to log in to their computers and their assignments from anywhere on campus.
Deputy Principal Geoff Ward will launch the project tomorrow with Richard Murphy, Director of IT Services,
John Bagnall, Librarian and Vinesh Chandra, Project Leader of the wireless networking pilot.
Vinesh said: "I am very pleased that the students are now able to use the technology. It solves the problem
of students having to queue up in IT suites to use a computer. It has been running very smoothly with hardly
any problems and the feedback has been great from all users."
