Sweating it out for TICR
Photo opportunity: 10am, Wednesday 4 February, Ninewells Hospital reception, Dundee.
Angus-based walking group the Sweaty Sloggers will tomorrow (4 February) hand over a cheque for over £1000 to
the University of Dundee's TICR campaign.
Twenty-four walkers trekked for a day in the Angus Glens last year from Glen Esk to Glen Clova in very wet
conditions to raise funds for the campaign that aims to research and prevent heart disease.
The funds will help purchase a Thermo Cycler machine which enables doctors to amplify patients' DNA so that
they can analyse it and identify those who may be susceptible to heart disease.
Sweaty Sloggers' David McGregor said, "It is a great honour to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
Members of my family have benefited from the excellent care provided by University and Ninewells staff so the
Sweaty Sloggers were more than happy to make this contribution towards the Thermo Cycler machine."
TICR campaign chairman Robert McLaren said, "I am delighted that through the efforts of Dave and his group of
walkers, the Sweaty Sloggers have managed to raise £1000 towards the purchase of this valuable piece of
equipment for TICR. Even though the day chosen for the walk over the Glens turned out to be extremely wet,
the intrepid Sloggers seemed to enjoy themselves."
Robert McLaren and one of the University’s heart disease experts Dr Colin Palmer will receive the cheque on
behalf of TICR.
