A former pupil of Harris Academy will travel out to Mombasa in Kenya this week on business for the University of Dundee to be met by the Headteacher of Mombasa Academy - coincidentally, another Harris FP.
Neil Christie is the international officer at the University of Dundee. His job is to promote the University and the city in other countries, explaining the Scottish higher education system and life and educational opportunities at the University of Dundee. Neil often travels abroad to speak to international schoolchildren in person. He was delighted when one of his enquiries to a school in Kenya returned promptly with a welcoming response.
He explains: "Irene Noble is Headteacher at Mombasa Academy. When she received my invitation she noted the Dundee connection and replied immediately. It was only when we began to correspond that we realised we had even more than Dundee in common. We both attended the same high school."
Kenya is one of the University of Dundee key target areas for international recruitment this year. Neil is travelling out with Dianne Pemberton Pigott, the University's alumni officer, to promote the University at the British Council recruitment fair. Dianne and Neil will also visit schools and meet up with alumni groups who are living and working in Kenya.
