Rectorial hustings
Media opportunity 8pm, Dundee University Students' Association
Airlie Place
Hustings for the position of Rector at the University of Dundee will
take place tomorrow night when the students will put the candidates through
their paces to determine their suitability and commitment to the post.
Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, Nick Johnston MSP and Fred MacAulay will pit their
wits against each other and the students as the race for Rector heads
into the closing stages.
The fourth candidate Richard Whiteley has pre-recorded his speech on
video to be broadcast at the hustings as he is currently in the US. Whiteley
will address students from his famous Countdown chair at Yorkshire television
flanked by the University crest.
David Hasselhoff, the fifth nominee for the job, withdrew last week
because of work commitments. Hasselhoff expressed his interest in visiting the
University at some point in the future but felt that his filming
commitments were such that he would be unable to fulfil the duties of
Rector.
Students' Association President Dave Cunningham said: "We expect a big
crowd as the students will be keen to ensure they give the candidates the
traditional grilling before the election on Friday. It's unfortunate that
all four candidates could not be here but the video of Richard Whiteley is
amusing and will go down well.''ENDS
The hustings take place at 8pm in the Dundee University Students'
Association. Press are welcome to attend and should enter via the
Balfour Street Doors.
Press Identification will be required for entry.
