Design students win awards
Two textile design students at the University of Dundee have won awards in a prestigious international design competition.
Selina Law and Angela Mackay, both final year textiles students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, took first and third place in the Colour in Design competition organised by the Society of Dyers and Colourists.
Selina's collection of woven textiles inspired by extreme weather conditions won her the top prize of a trip to Mauritius where she will see her designs transformed into a finished outfit. The talented student, who is originally from Northern Ireland, also won the Veronica Bell Award for colour in textiles.
Angela, who is from Arbroath, won a £200 cash prize for her third-placed submission in the textile design competition.
The winning students were chosen by a broad selection of industry representatives from across the fashion and textiles sector including George Davis, founder of Next and current designer of the Per Una range at M&S.
The students' success has also won the University's textile design department £6000 of software and training from international textile design software company Lectra.
Praising the students' achievements Frances Stevenson, teaching fellow within the textile design department, said, "The awards are very competitive and the students' success reflects the continued reputation of the textiles course within Duncan of Jordanstone.
"It is a fantastic prize as it gives the textile design course technology relevant to industry and it will open up even more opportunities for our students."
