18 December 2003
Sir Alan Langlands, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Dundee, today (Thursday 18 December) welcomed the Scottish Parliament's Enterprise and Culture Committee's report on funding in Scottish higher education.
He said, "This appears to be a well balanced review of the current position. I am pleased that the Enterprise and Culture Committee recognises the significant contribution universities make to the economy of Scotland.
I welcome too, their recognition that if we are to continue to contribute in this way there must be further investment.
The University of Dundee is well placed to deliver on the twin aspirations of world class research and establishing Scotland as the preferred location for overseas as well as UK students. These are key goals being vigorously pursued within the university's current strategy and one of the reasons the University was recently recognised by, for example the Scottish Council for Development and Industry and by international scientists who voted the University of Dundee one of the world’s best places to work."
