Professor Brian Burchell has been voted the new Dean of Medicine by the faculty of medicine, dentistry, nursing and midwifery. His term of office will run for three years commencing 1 August 2003.
Professor Burchell is head of molecular and cellular pathology and honorary professor of biochemistry at the University of St Andrews. He is president of the European Society of Biochemical Pharmacology and Wellcome Trust Programme grant holder - he has been awarded more than £2m in research grants since 1996.
Brian has presented more than 100 invited lectures to International Symposia, published more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers and 25 invited research reviews. He has successfully trained 24 PhD students and 20 postdoctoral fellows. He is on the editorial board of Pharmacogenetics, Drug Metabolism and Disposition and has reviewed 24 scientific journals.
