One of a series of experts called upon to provide the Scottish Executive with specialised advice - Professor Mono Chatterji of the University of Dundee has just been appointed by SCOTECON, the specialist policy think tank set up to advise the scottish executive on policy matters.
Professor Chatterji will take up his post as Co-ordinator of Research for Education and Training for the Scottish Economic Policy Network. He will be responsible for stimulating research throughout Scotland that considers the economic implications of any public policy proposals.
Professor Chatterji's appointment comes right on the back of his recent award for the most outstanding undergraduate economics course in a UK university. The award was made by the Economics Learning and Teaching Support Network - set up to support the learning and teaching of economics in universities.
Academics and research teams will be able to bid for research funding from Professor Chatterji to initiate projects in economics research. Mono, along with six other co-ordinators in the areas such as health, enterprise, education, transport and social exclusion each have a pot of money that they will distribute to fund investigative work in each field.
Professor Chatterji has been teaching at the University of Dundee since 1989. He is Bonar Professor of applied economics with a specific research interest focussing on the economics of education, training and human resources. Mono studied at Bombay University and took his PhD in Cambridge./ends
