Eminent biochemist Professor Dr Reinhard Luhrmann, Director of the Max Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry, Gottingen, Germany has chosen to present a highly prestigious prize lecture at the University of Dundee's School of Life Sciences.
Each year, a German and a British scientist are awarded the Feldberg Foundation Prize in recognition of their scientific achievements and present a lecture in the other's country at an institution of their choice. It is sign of Dundee's international research status that Reinhard Luhrmann has chosen to present his Prize Lecture here.
Professor Luhrmann is one of Germany's eminent biochemists. In his lecture on Wednesday 28 August he will discuss "Structural dynamics of the spliceosome", giving an overview of his pioneering work on the analysis of RNA protein complexes involved in splicing, including both biochemical and structural studies. Splicing is a vital process used by cells to make genes function correctly. Defects in the splicing process are a common cause of human inherited disease.
The Feldberg Foundation was established over thirty years ago by the late Wilhelm Feldberg to promote Anglo-German friendship in medical and biological science.
The Lecture will take place at 4 pm in the Small Lecture Theatre in the Medical Sciences Institute at the MSI/WTB Complex, School of Life Sciences./ENDS
