Textile Exhibition
Eight textile students from the University of Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and
Design (DJCAD) will conclude their third year studies with an exhibition of their work, from 2 - 12
May. The exhibition, 'Tastes like Transbrella' will feature a wide range of unusual and
interesting approaches to working with textiles and will take place in the Bradshaw Art Space at
DJCAD.
From using photography, installation work and paper body casts to creating and filming a puppet
show, the artworks involved will provide an intriguing challenge to the audience's preconceptions
of what textile work should be.
There will also be fabrics on display, such as a piece by Jane Chisholm inspired by a performance
of cello music played in response to a bombing in Romania, and Gayl Copeland will show a series of
images sewn onto her grandmother's curtains.
Catherine Barthram's work will consist of photographs of skirts she has made. She will be printing
the fabric with designs influenced by scientific equations and diagrams. These equations will also
dictate the style and cut of the skirts.
The diverse range of themes and artworks will provide a fascinating opportunity for the public to
see the wide variety of experimentation and creativity that is encouraged by the Textiles
department.
The exhibition features the work of Catherine Barthram, Pam Bennett, Kim Broadbent, Lianne Bryce,
Kt Burns, Jane Chisholm, Gayl Copeland, Laura Murdoch.
The exhibition can be seen in the Bradshaw Art Space, Exhibitions Department, DJCAD, 13 Perth Rd,
Dundee from 2 - 12 May 2005. Opening hours are Mon-Fri: 9.30am-5.30pm, Sat: 9.30am - 4.30pm
