Aristotle sparks debate in Dundee
Photo opportunity: 7.15pm, Friday 30 April, Civic Reception, Discovery Point, Dundee
"What should we do with our lives?" That is one of the central questions of philosophy. The great Greek
thinker, Aristotle, provided ways of answering this question that ethicists are still talking about
today. They'll be talking about it a lot in Dundee soon.
Over the May bank holiday weekend, philosophers from all over the world will gather in the Tower Conference
Centre at the University of Dundee for two and a half days of debate and discussion of the place of
Aristotle and the ethics of virtue in contemporary moral thought. Depute Lord Provost, Charles Farquhar will
join the delegates on Friday evening at a civic reception to be held in Dundee's Discovery Point.
Members of the public are welcome to join academics from London School of Economics and University of
Virginia amongst other international philosophers at the conference, and are invited to contact Dr Timothy
Chappell of the Department of Philosophy for further details.
