A researcher from the University of Dundee broke the British record in speed skiing on Tuesday at the Red Rock French ski championships in Les Arcs France.

Nigel Brockton (31), a post doctoral student in obstetrics and gynaecology smashed the record with a speed of 235.190kph (146.2mph).

Nigel said: "I've been waiting five years for this opportunity. I was second man off the top and knew as soon as I hit the run that it was going to be good. I nailed it. It was an awesome sensation."

Nigel, originally from London moved to Glenshee when he was young and learned to ski. He was educated in Scotland and is now researching at the University of Dundee. He is sponsored by Graham Tiso and Drambuie.

Nigel plans to go to the FIS world championships in Finland next March. He came tenth in the last world championships in Italy but now he is happier with his speed he will be training in Finland in November. For now, he is looking at glycogen storage diseases in babies which can often go undetected by clinicians.
