Pounder examines bodies in Jenin Government hospital

Professor Derrick Pounder - this morning gained access to the Jenin Government Hospital. Mr Pounder, who is Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University of Dundee, is today conducting autopsies to clarify the cause of death of those bodies in the hospital. Scores more bodies are believed to remain in the refugee camp, mainly in the rubble of bulldozed houses.

Professor Pounder is part of an Amnesty International team which had previously been denied access to the Jenin hospital. This decision was reversed early this morning. Access to the camp had also previously been denied, but check-points were removed on this morning allowing limited entry.

Notes for Editors
This is an update on Prof Pounder's mission in Jenin. A press release issued earlier today stated that access to the hospital had been denied.

Professor Pounder will be available for interview on his return to the UK at the weekend.
