The University of Dundee has organised a family fun packed weekend this Saturday starting in the morning at the Botanic Garden and ending with an evening concert in aid of TICR charity at the Chaplaincy Centre.
The Botanic Garden on Riverside Drive will be opening its gates at 10am to give adults and children of all ages a chance to see rain forest plants and animals, work on an interactive touch screen display and walk through 'interactive landscapes' with expert Rangers from the Ancrum Centre.
A unique evening concert is taking place in the evening at University of Dundee's Chaplaincy Centre, Cross Row. 'Choral Pops' is looking for performers to come and sing in a production of choral favourites: Mendelssohn - Hear my Prayer; Bach - Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and PDQ Bach - Knock, knock Cantanta. Rehearsal begins at 2.30pm and the concert takes place that evening at 6.30pm. All donations will go towards the Tayside Institute of Cardiovascular and Research to create a centre of excellence with the aim of helping to beat heart and vascular diseases. Singers pay £5 (concession £3) and audience tickets cost £5.
Greame Stevenson, Music co-ordinator said: "This performance of PDQ Bach is a first for Dundee if not Scotland. Like many of us, PDQ was disturbed by the fact that he could never remember jokes he'd heard when he wanted to tell them later. To remember them, he would set the jokes to music immediately."
