Dr Dario Alessi at the University of Dundee is to receive a prestigious European prize for his outstanding and growing reputation as a leader in the field of metabolism research.
Dario, Principal Investigator in the Medical Research Council Protein Phosphoylation Unit in the School of Life Sciences will be awarded the Young Investigator G.B. Moragni Prize 2002 at the 8th European Symposium on Metabolism held in Padova, Italy in October. This prize is conferred every two years on a researcher under 40 years of age for "outstanding achievements in the field of metabolism". Dario will receive his award of a silver medal and $8000 at the conference.
Dr Dario Alessi - winner of the Eppendorf Young European scientist of the year in 2000, leads a research team in understanding insulin regulated signalling pathways in the fight against diabetes. Dario is also one of eight members of the School of Life Sciences to win the Colworth medal in 1999 for young scientists under the age of 36.
Dario's research was lauded again just last month when he was announced as one of five academics at the University of Dundee to be elected fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh./ENDS
