Around 70 pupils from all over Scotland will assemble at the University of Dundee tomorrow to take part in the CREST awards - presenting their scientific research to professional scientists.
Pupils from Kyle Academy, Dollar Academy, Coltness High School, Hutcheson's Grammar Glasgow, St Columba's Kilmarnock and St George's Edinburgh will be displaying their innovations in bioscience and engineering for the scientists to see.
A select panel of judges from the University of Dundee will assess the students' work. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category. Prof Birgit Lane, Prof Stefan Hoppler, Dr Steven Hubbard, Dr William Whitfield, Prof Michael Davis and Dr Eric Able will judge the students' work and award prizes in each category.
CREST - CREativity in Science and Technology is a national, project based accreditation scheme aimed a secondary school pupils and is designed to recognise students' achievements in science, engineering and technology through a practical and problem solving approach.
This is the fourth consecutive year a CREST event has been held in Scotland. The event is being organised by SETPPOINT Scotland North, who promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics to school, colleges and the community through a variety of activities from their base in Aberdeen.
The CREST Scottish event is for students who have undertaken a CREST award. It enables the student delegates to present, and show off their projects to their peers, other scientists, and educationalists by giving a talk and displaying posters.
