The University of Dundee's award winning Medieval Drama Group is to stage a selection of European plays with the Centre for Applied Languages this weekend in the Chaplaincy centre. A mask of Kenneth Branagh's face used for special effects in the film version of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has been gifted to the group and is to be raffled during the interval
Performances include Nice Wanton by the medieval drama group. The age-old proverb "spare the rod: spoil the child" is featured in this highly dramatic tale involving two central characters Delilah and Ishmael who personify wilfulness and self-indulgence. The Spanish drama group is staging a scene from Federico Garcia Lorca's Yerma, a tragedy revolving around a childless husband and wife. One of Jean Tardieu's short plays from La Comedie du Language, involving a couple meeting by chance after many years will be presented by the French drama group. Dann Gibt's Nur Eins was written by Wolfgang Borchert at the end of WWII. The piece, performed by the German drama group, is an appeal to individuals to take a stance when the warmongers tell them to contribute to the war effort. Borchert was a pacifist during the years of the Third Reich and paid for his beliefs with his life.
The medieval drama group is travelling to Holland this summer to take part in a festival organised by the international society for medieval theatre.
The groups are performing in the Chaplaincy centre on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 April at 7.30pm. £3 adults, £2 concessions.ENDS
