Dundee trainee surgeon in line for major entrepreneurship prize for medical bra design
Inventor is one of six students and academics through to Converge Challenge final where a £60k cash and in-kind support package awaits the winner.
A medical bra, designed by a University of Dundee trainee surgeon, which claims to speed up recovery for women following
breast surgery, has been short-listed in the final of a national academic business competition which offers £60k cash
and in-kind support first prize to the winner.
John Biddlestone, is one of six academics through to the final of the Converge Challenge which gives students
and staff members of any Scottish university the chance to develop the commercial potential of their inventions.
John's creation is The Assymetrical Bra, designed to incorporate pioneering technology which expedites recovery from
post-operative breast surgery.
Olga Kozlova, creator of Converge Challenge, said, 'New business inventions like John's are inspirational. The Converge
Challenge is about equipping people like him with the right skills and support they need to turn their research into a
successful commercial venture.
John and the other five short-listed entrants have a market-focussed product or service, and have demonstrated impressive
commercial acumen and business planning.'
The final of the Converge Challenge takes place in Edinburgh on Tuesday 24th September at the Edinburgh Conference Centre,
Heriot Watt University, where the keynote speaker will be John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and
Sustainable Growth in the Scottish Government.
