'Experience Scotland at the University of Dundee' event on Saturday, 5th October
Photo opportunity: 3-6pm on Saturday, 5th October at Tower Building, Perth Road.
Around 200 students from around the world will this weekend be introduced to haggis, whisky, bagpipes and Highland dancing
as they are welcomed to Scotland.
The 'Experience Scotland at the University of Dundee' event is organised by the University's College of Arts & Social
Sciences (CASS) to allow international students to meet, make new friends and learn more about their new home. It takes place
at the Tower Building from 3-6pm on Saturday, 5th October.
A pipe band will announce the students' arrival before a series of short presentations from staff members reveal a little
of the history and culture of Dundee and Scotland. The light-hearted event will then see experts explain the significance
and characteristics of single malt Scotch whisky and a haggis will be addressed in front of the audience.
They will then be treated to live entertainment in the form of traditional Scottish music and dancing, while a number
of stalls and exhibitions will give students a flavour of the services, facilities and activities on offer locally. As
they take these in, they will have the opportunity to sample local food and drink and socialise with staff and students.
'Our annual welcome event for international students promises to be fun, lively and informative,' said Professor Rob Duck,
Deputy Head of CASS. 'We are looking forward to meeting the students and celebrating their decision to come to Dundee.
'The programme is designed to help them learn more about Scotland, its heritage and culture, and find out what is available
for them in and around Dundee. Students from other College's within the University will also be joining those from CASS,
and we are sure they'll all have a great time and, hopefully, enjoy some haggis and whisky with us.'
'Experience Scotland at the University of Dundee' takes place at the Tower Building from 3-6pm on Saturday, 5th October.
