Success of student entrepreneurs celebrated
Emil Stoyanov, an MSc International Business student at the University of Dundee, will tomorrow be named as The Enterprise Gym Champion 2013 in recognition of the aptitude for entrepreneurialism he has demonstrated over the past year.
Emil (26), originally from Bulgaria, will be presented with his award by Professor Pete Downes, Principal of the University, at TEG's annual dinner and award ceremony at Dundee University Students Association on Thursday, 28th March.
Emil, an economics graduate, has an impressive CV that demonstrates a deep need to understand and engage in the world of commerce and business as he has obtained experience of customer service and team management in two continents. Since joining TEG last year, Emil has consistently performed well in enterprise competitions, becoming the initiative's first 'Double Blue' in the process.
Eleven students will have their achievements marked with a Dean's Medal for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. A record 90 students have received Full Blues awards this year in recognition of the innovation and dedication they have displayed since engaging with TEG.
Ken Edward, Enterprise Facilitator at the University, congratulated the students, saying, "All of the students receiving certificates this evening have shown great commitment and engagement with our activities.
"Emil is someone who shows many of the characteristics associated with enterprising and entrepreneurial people: - a curiosity and desire to learn about how things work, an eye for an opportunity, the need for achievement, creativity, energy and determination.
"What is particularly striking about Emil is his understanding of how engagement in the world of commerce and business invariably involves learning, and his keenness to use this newly obtained knowledge to make the most of the opportunities that it brings.
"His career here at The Enterprise Gym over his seven months of membership is outstanding, and his performance in our virtual enterprise course showed he possessed the entrepreneurial flair to cope with the challenges facing a start-up business."
Established in 2005, TEG is a University initiative that aims to facilitate students from all degree pathways to actively engage with developing their own business and entrepreneurial skills. TEG has been hosting free workshops and events, including visiting 'Super coach' events that encourage students to think about their skill set and increase their commercial awareness.
With competition for graduate jobs becoming ever more gruelling, the students attending these events are gaining valuable transferable skills that can prove to their advantage when seeking employment. The Enterprise Gym encourages students to test themselves, think more creatively about business, improve their confidence, presentation skills, and meet likeminded students with a desire to engage more fully with their potential.
