International launch for graduation week at Dundee

Hundreds of students and their families from around the world will help kick off Graduation week celebrations at the University of Dundee on Monday June 17th.

The International Students Reception traditionally marks the start of celebrations for a week which will see around 3000 graduates receive their degrees.

Monday's event takes place in the Dalhousie Building at the University.

"Our international students form a hugely significant part of the University community in Dundee, and more than a quarter of our students come from outside the United Kingdom," said Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University.

"We have students from 145 countries and many of those nationalities will be represented at Graduation this week, which is always fantastic to see. These students are our ambassadors to the rest of the world and they help to bring a global perspective to the campus experience for everyone who works and studies here. We work hard to ensure they take with them the most positive experience of Dundee so I am delighted to report that once again our rankings for student satisfaction among international students are among the highest in the UK."

Some of the most heavily represented countries across the University community are China, Ireland, Canada, USA and Nigeria. The University is engaged with over 5000 students from outside the UK, representing 26% of the total number of students engaged with the University, either in Dundee or through distance learning programmes.

The International Students Reception takes place from 5pm on Monday June 17th.

The summer Graduation ceremonies take place in the Caird Hall in Dundee from Wednesday June 19th to Friday June 21st, with morning and afternoon ceremonies each day.
