"Modern Masters in Print - a personal view" - Dundee Arts Café event on 3rd September

A new season of the popular Dundee Arts Café series will be launched next week with a personal look at work by some of the 20th century's leading artists currently being exhibited in the city.

The first of nine exciting events scheduled to take place over the 2013/14 academic year will see Ronald Forbes, artist and former head of painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD), give an artist's opinion on the 'Modern Masters in Print' exhibition.

Work by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Andy Warhol is currently being on show at The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery and Museum in a touring exhibition organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the V & A at Dundee pre-opening programme.

Mr Forbes will share the reflections of a practising artist on this rich range of work at The McManus on Tuesday, 3rd September.

Event organiser Dr Jon Urch, Public Outreach co-ordinator at the University of Dundee, said, "We are delighted to announce the programme for the new season of Dundee Arts Café events. The nine exciting talks we have are certain to encourage lively discussion, starting with the personal view of a renowned artist in response to the recently opened exhibition of prints by world famous artists of the 20th century.

"Everyone is welcome to our Dundee Arts Café events and this year we will cover topics as diverse as film adaptation, historical local heroes, education, The Beatles and mental health recovery."

Dundee Arts Café is a programme of talks showcasing arts research and developments taking place locally. The series is organised by the Universities of Dundee and Abertay, and Dundee City Council's Leisure & Culture department.

Dundee Arts Café events enable members of the public to relax and discuss the arts, from English to History, Philosophy to Architecture, and Fine Art to Product Design, with some of the leading names carrying out work in these areas in Dundee.

The events last one hour, and speakers talk passionately about their work for 30 minutes before the floor is opened up to an informal discussion with the audience. All talks take place in The McManus Café, Albert Square, Dundee.

'Modern Masters in Print - a personal view' takes place at 6pm on Tuesday, 3rd September. The event is free, and open to all. Limited seating means visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
