Tay Estuary Forum Annual Conference 2013 - Turning Tides: Adapting to Change at Our Coast
Conference - Friday April 19th, 9.30am West Park Conference Centre
Our coasts and seas are changing, both physically and in terms of their use and governance. Monitoring these changes, both human and physical, is becoming an ever-more challenging yet essential task in informing options and priorities for sustainable planning.
The Tay Estuary Forum's 2013 conference, "Turning Tides" explores an overriding theme of adapting to change at our coasts, which considers future policy developments and directions, alongside advances in monitoring and managing Scotland's coastal and marine environment.
Speakers at the conference - which takes place in Dundee on Friday April 19th - will discuss topics including Marine Planning, Offshore Renewables, Scotland's National Marine Plan and Scottish Marine Regions.
New to the programme this year will be a Dynamic Modelling and Visualisation session. Current examples of projects using cutting edge visualisation techniques for imaging our coastal zones and subsea environments will be highlighted; along with the role dynamic modelling and visualisation has to play in recording change, and how it helps inform marine and coastal stakeholders in making sustainable management decisions.
The final session focuses on the TEF region, looking at coastal development (both past and present), changing uses along this stretch of coast and how research and management of dynamic coastal processes fits alongside with development potential and functionality. V&A at Dundee, Guardbridge Paper Mill site in the Eden Estuary and Angus Shoreline Management Plan II will form part of the discussions.
Exhibits will be present throughout the day, ensuring many opportunities to interact with regional coastal sector representatives.
Laura Booth, project officer for Tay Estuary Forum, said, "The Forum is celebrating its 16th year of working to promote the wise and sustainable use of the Tay Estuary and adjacent coastline, during which time we have helped bring together many stakeholders, interested parties and the general public to discuss the issues affecting the area's coastline.
"This year we again offer a diverse programme which is expected to generate some lively debate."
As a voluntary Local Coastal Partnership, hosted by the University of Dundee, the TEF communicates with stakeholders and the general public on a variety of coastal and marine topics. The TEF Annual Conference acts as a platform for facilitating discussion on current issues affecting the Tay Estuary and its adjacent coastline between Montrose and Fife Ness. Many organisations from different coastal, marine and environmental spheres take part in delivering presentations on new initiatives, progress, and future plans; engaging simultaneously with a wide ranging collection of interested parties.
The conference will begin at 10am (registration from 9:30) until 4pm in the Sidlaw Suite at West Park Conference Centre, Perth Road, Dundee.
