Next stop New York for Scottish designer Hayley Scanlan
Scottish Young Designer of the Year and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design graduate, Hayley Scanlan has been invited to preview her latest fashion collection in New York, as part of a week long programme of events celebrating Scotland.
Hayley's latest designs will be showing at the "From Scotland With Love" fashion show on Monday 8th April, the centrepiece of New York's much loved 'Tartan Week' and billed as the most prestigious Scottish fashion show in the world. The fundraising fashion event aspires to bring designers together, who are working with Scottish textiles, from across the world and showcase their talent to an international audience.
Hayley, tipped by the fashion industry as one to watch before she had even left Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2009, will preview her new AW13 collection "The Queen of Hearts" in New York. Using an eclectic mash of references, from Mary Queen of Scots to the inimitable punk style of 80's icon Debbie Harry and the punk movement, the collection is made up of jackets, skirts and signature print dresses in a royal inspired colour palette of cobalt blue, deep red and a black & white Prince of Wales check. Patent leather black trims, lacing-up detail and chunky silver zips are used for embellishment.
"Debbie Harry is one of my icons. I loved the idea of pairing someone like her, with an equally rebellious heroine, Mary Stuart, the former Queen of Scotland. This is a collection that has taken me deep into the heart of my Scottish roots and represents a strong and feisty femininity." said Scanlan.
Hayley's designs will be modelled on the catwalk by high profile celebrities supporting the charitable event and seen by an audience made up of influential buyers, fashion media, celebrities and business figureheads. A new theme for the show "The Scottish Lion meets the Asian Dragon" brings an international flavour to the patriotic event.

Notes to Editors:
Dundee born Hayley Scanlan learned the art of dressmaking as a little girl under the direction of her beloved grandmother. Graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2009, Scanlan's graduate collection caught the eye of supermodel Erin O'Connor who commissioned a custom made Hayley Scanlan studded leather jacket. Scanlan went onto establish her womenswear label in 2011. Scanlan has dressed celebrities including Marina Diamandis, Jessie J and Little Mix. She received the coveted Young Designer of The Year Award in 2012 at the Scottish Fashion Awards and has since set up her studio in Dundee, where she is also an Ambassador for the City.
Scotland with Love, part of New York Tartan Week will take place on Monday 8th April at 7.30 pm at Stage 48, Hells Kitchen, Manhattan (605 West 48th Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues).
Founder of 'From Scotland with Love, Dr Geoffrey Scott Carrol said "In deciding on a new theme for this year's show we wanted to be able to expand the commercial opportunities for our designers, manufacturers and business partners. When we look at growth these days we look at the Asian markets. We wanted to engage new Asian buyers, business and financial partners who have an interest in working with new Scottish partners. Our focus will be on China, Korea and Japan."
