ISE staff and members set for gruelling 'SAS Challenge'

Staff and members of the University of Dundee’s Institute of Sport and Exercise (ISE) are seeking backing for an epic fundraising challenge later this year.

A dozen hardy fitness enthusiasts will undertake the gruelling SAS Challenge on Saturday, 1st June in aid of Tayside MS Therapy Centre. While a 130-foot abseil down the University’s Tower Building is daunting enough, it will only mark the first stage of the slog for the volunteers.

From there, they will cycle a 50-mile route to Wormit Boat Club, from where they will take to the water for a five-mile river raft up the Tay. Finally, their stamina will be tested to the limit with a seven-mile run to David Lloyds Gym at Ethiebeaton, Monifieth, where the endurance test will come to an end.

The SAS Challenge is being organised by ISE client Keith Anderson. The challenge is named after Keith’s sister, Saran Anderson Stewart, a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer who benefits from the services offered by the Therapy Centre.

“The Centre does such wonderful work for MS patients locally, and it relies exclusively on charitable donations,” explained Keith. “Therefore, every penny counts and it must raise £130,000 just to remain open so I’m delighted that staff at ISE and other friends have come together for the SAS Challenge.

“We know it will be tough and are training hard in preparation but we take a lot of inspiration from Sarah, whose positive attitude and zest for life is really amazing.”

More information about the challenge is available by contacting Keith at keith_anderson@blueyonder.co.uk or Helen Weavers at h.m.weavers@dundee.ac.uk.
