Degree Show 2013
This year’s Degree Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) celebrations will take place from 17th to 26th May, with a host of special events lined up to celebrate the institution’s 125th anniversary.
Hundreds of alumni from around the globe are expected to attend a special reunion event on Friday, 17th May ahead of the traditional Preview Evening for the students, their families and invited guests.
The city’s largest annual exhibition of art and design will feature the work of some 290 final-year students, while an additional exhibition of alumni artwork will be held for the duration of DJCAD Degree Show 2013.
Students from all 11 undergraduate programmes will exhibit the fruits of their labours across the two buildings and fourteen floors that comprise DJCAD, with every spare space exhibiting art and design. DJCAD’s new entrance at the Matthew Building will enable visitors to more easily navigate their way around the exhibition.
The show attracts thousands of visitors each year and is seen as a springboard for some of Scotland’s most exciting emerging artists. DJCAD has a reputation as one of the leading art schools in the UK and many of its students go on to be world-renowned artists.
Professor Tom Inns, Dean of DJCAD, said Degree Show was always a special time for the whole University community but this year’s event held a particular resonance.
“We will be delighted to welcome back alumni from the four corners of the world and I’m sure they will be very impressed by the standard of work at this year’s Degree Show,” he said.
“It is the students and staff who have, over the past 125 years, made DJCAD the innovative and exciting centre of art and design excellence it is today. I’m sure meeting with so many of our alumni who have gone on to achieve so much in their respective fields will be inspiring for the class of 2013.”
The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday, 18th May until Sunday, May 25th. Admission is free and the exhibition is open from 10am until 8pm (Monday – Friday) and 10am to 4pm (Saturday – Sunday).
The DJCAD Degree Show is one of the highlights of the city’s cultural calendar, attracting some 10,000 visitors each year and generating in excess of Ł1million for the local economy in the process.
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design has been rated as the top art school in Scotland and in the top four in the UK according to the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
The University of Dundee is one of the partners in the 'V&A at Dundee’ project that will create a statement building on Dundee’s newly developing waterfront. This will house contemporary collections from the world-famous Victoria & Albert Museum alongside other major exhibitions, as well as showcasing design practice and research.
More events to mark the DJCAD Degree Show 2013 celebrations will be announced in the run up to opening.
