Dalai Lama's lecture to be screened at University
A special screening of the historic lecture delivered in Dundee by His Holiness The Dalai Lama earlier this year will take place at the University of Dundee later this month.
This free event takes place at the Dalhousie Building at 6pm on Thursday 20th September, allowing those who missed out on hearing His Holiness speak at the Caird Hall in June to take advantage this time around.
Tickets for this year's Margaret Harris Lecture on Religion sold out within hours of going on sale. Thousands of people packed the venue to hear The Dalai Lama's talk, entitled 'Education of the Heart: A New World Order of Compassion', while hundreds more locals filled the City Square to welcome one of the world's most revered spiritual leaders to Dundee.
The visit took place as part of a UK-wide tour, and the University of Dundee Chaplaincy Centre were one of the key partners who helped organise the Scottish leg. University Chaplain Rev Dr Fiona Douglas said the appearance proved to be a highly significant event in the history of Dundee.
"We were delighted to bring The Dalai Lama to Dundee to deliver this year's Margaret Harris Lecture on Religion, and the excitement the announcement generated showed how his message of compassion resonated with the people of Dundee," she said.
"Organising the event turned out to be a massive undertaking, but it was all worth it on the day when the people of this city took His Holiness to their hearts. Opportunities to hear from this much loved and respected leader in person are rare, so we were delighted to be able to offering this opportunity to the people of Dundee.
"Now, we are glad to be offering this opportunity to people who missed out on the day."
The screening will be followed by a wine reception, and opportunities to view the chair, designed Malcolm Cheyne of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, that The Dalai Lama delivered his lecture from, and hear the bagpipe music written by piper and University student, Craig Weir, to welcome His Holiness to Dundee.
