DUSA launches Raising and Giving Week
A PRESS RELEASE FROM DUNDEE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (DUSA)
Photo opportunity: Photo opportunity: 6pm on Thursday, October 25th at Carnegie Suite, DUSA. A cocktail reception, with many of the campaign’s patrons present, will launch the 2013 RAG Week campaign.
Dundee University Students Association (DUSA) will this week announce the programme for the 2013 RAG Week campaign which, in partnership with Cash for Kids, will raise money for the Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Lodge (TCCL) charity
Following on from last year’s successful campaign, DUSA will unveil plans for the next programme of events on Thursday, October 25th. The RAG campaign will begin in January 2013, with all funds raised by DUSA and Cash for Kids going towards TCCL’s project to construct a fully equipped holiday home for children suffering from cancer or leukaemia and their families to enjoy in between treatments.
TCCL is a children's cancer and leukaemia charity, who work closely with the oncology staff at Ward 29 in Ninewells Hospital. TCCL has been serving the Tayside and North East Fife community since 1994.
DUSA’s partner in fundraising for TCCL Lodge is another well established and recognisable Tayside charity, Tay FM’s Cash for Kids. Cash for Kids will be working along DUSA and TCCL Lodge to popularize the cause of TCCL Lodge.
To emphasize the importance of the event as a tool to bring the University and DUSA closer to Dundee’s community and public life, the campaign is to be led under the patronage of key citizens of the city, and many of these patrons will be in attendance at the launch event.
Patrons include Bob Duncan, Lord Provost of the city, Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Hollywood star and Dundee University Rector Brian Cox, as well as local politicians and representatives of Dundee companies and organisations.
The event will start at 6pm in the Carnegie Suite, DUSA on the 25th of October with a short round of introductions, followed by a presentation of the RAG project.
Anna Dimitrova, Vice President of Student Activities at DUSA, said, "The campaign will be a unique opportunity for city and University to show their natural partnership and interdependence by joining forces and delivering outstanding support to a local charity.
"In the process, students will be able to learn more about Dundee’s community and see how, through fun and varied activities, they can induce positive change."
In addition to introducing the campaign, the event will also see the launch of a custom-made line of greetings cards designed by children affected by cancer and leukaemia. Three designs for Christmas cards and a birthday card, based on children’s drawings, will be officially made available for sale on that date.
The campaign has already received the support of local companies and businesses such as Winters & Simpsons, McIntyre’s hair salons, Acanthus Florist shop and JEM Computer Systems.
Students and community volunteers have already organised events in support of the campaign, which will take place in the run up to RAG Week.
During the week beginning January 14th, various events will be held in DUSA with more information available from www.dusa.co.uk/content/881953/rag_week_2013
