BBC Political Editor Nick Robinson will explore the post-Leveson relationship between those who wield power and those who report on them when he appears at the Dundee Literary Festival next week.

Nick is one of the star names appearing at the 2012 festival, where he will be promoting his new book ‘Live from Downing Street’ . As someone who has spent much of his career speaking to the camera outside the famous black brick townhouses that are home to our most powerful leaders, he is uniquely placed to comment on the relationship between politicians and the media in the UK.

He will be discussing his new book, life as BBC Political Editor, and his own considered view of what impartial reporting means at Bonar Hall from 1pm on Friday, 26th October.

Festival director Anna Day said she was delighted to be welcoming one of the UK’s most respected and best known journalists to Dundee.

"Current affairs is at the very core of the Dundee Literary Festival, and there are few better known faces in this area than Nick Robinson," she said. "I am personally very excited about hearing his experiences from a career that has seen him report on some of the biggest stories in this country’s history.

"The relationship that lies at the heart of Nick’s publication has always been fraught with tension. While politicians now deal with 24-hour rolling news channels, blogs and Twitter but it was not always this way, and Nick will be taking us on a journey through the history of the conflict between journalists and the government of the time.

"Of course, in the aftermath of the Leveson enquiry, this conflict has entered a new phase and Nick is ideally placed to comment on this new reality."

The 2012 Dundee Literary Festival is the biggest to date, with a total of 42 events scheduled to take place from October 24th-28th. Other leading figures from the world of fiction, poetry, journalism and the publishing industry will take part in a series of workshops, talks, book signings, and readings.

Tickets for the Nick Robinson event, entitled ‘Politics, Power and the Media’ cost £5 and £3 for concessions.
