Fancy dress fundraiser for PAMIS

PAMIS, the University of Dundee-based charity that works with people with profound and multiple learning difficulties and their families, will hold a fancy dress fundraiser later this month as part of its ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations.

The organisation are looking for people to get into the swing by dressing up as the actor/character of their choice and joining them for a night of music, dancing and fun at the West Park Centre on Friday, 26th October from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10.

The event is being held to celebrate the work that PAMIS has done over the past 20 years and to raise funds for its current and future projects.

PAMIS aims to ensure that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities are valued both as individuals and in the contribution they make to the community. It is the only organisation in Scotland to provide support exclusively to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families from birth right through to adulthood and for the rest of their lives.

PAMIS director Loretto Lambe said the organisation was determined to give people with PMLD a voice.

She said, "I can hardly believe it has been so long since we started. We worked in three areas to begin with and established those and moved into other geographical areas. We still want to keep doing work to bring about change and be a voice for this group of people.

"We want to ensure this group remains visible and are not forgotten and get the services that I really believe is their absolute right."

PAMIS has worked closely with the Scottish Government on the development of policy and practice. This work includes representation on government committees, responding to consultation exercises, and campaigning on key issues.
