V&A at Dundee Digital Mash
Calling all digital creatives, developers and thinkers - help us kick off V&A at Dundee Digital!
Event - Wednesday 7th November
Caffe Borsa, Panmure Street, Dundee, DD1 1ED
Part of NEoN 2012
Digital developers, creatives and those with general digital interest - from key industry players and teams to education institutions and NEoN festival attendees - are being invited to take part in the very first V&A at Dundee 'Digital Mash' next week.
V&A at Dundee Digital Mash is an informal event designed to kick off V&A at Dundee Digital as part of NEoN Festival 2012 - the 'mash' referring to the way in which ideas and energy will be mixed up to create innovative new channels and activities with a real cutting-edge.
NEoN, Scotland's only digital arts festival, was chosen as the perfect platform for the launch due to its origins in the city of Dundee and its dizzying programme which spans the digital gamut from cutting-edge music and games development to augmented reality and physical computing.
V&A at Dundee Digital Mash will capitalise on the wealth of experience gathering in the city for the festival and provide an opportunity to be part of a new international community aiming to deliver a world-leading digital/interactive experience for V&A at Dundee, the first ever design museum to be built in the UK outside of London.
Examples of the range of digital activity V&A at Dundee might cover include innovative exhibitions telling the story of digital design; exploring how digital developments have revolutionised other design disciplines (from architecture to fashion); and creating new ways of accessing physical data remotely through augmented reality and virtual networks. V&A at Dundee Digital Mash is designed to kickstart this journey and explore the possibilities across the core threads of design heritage past, present and future, creative learning and design-led business innovation.
Philip Long, Director of V&A at Dundee, said, "The digital potential of V&A at Dundee is vast. Scotland's digital designers and developers are renowned the world over as global pioneers so it has always been our ambition within V&A at Dundee to create a world-leading digital and interactive experience by working with this talented pool of innovators.
"It is very important to us that V&A at Dundee is not just about what happens within the building. By creating a core digital channel that informs the full range of V&A at Dundee activities we will be well placed to realise that ambition and reach more isolated communities as well as those on a global scale. We also hope the benefits of this Digital Mash will work both ways, by providing networking and collaborative opportunities on local, national and international platforms and offering additional visibility to this innovative community."
Lyall Bruce, Co-Director of NEoN 2012, said, "V&A at Dundee is an exciting and visionary project that builds on the rich digital ecosystem that already exists in Dundee. We are very excited that V&A at Dundee has chosen to partner with NEoN for a second year to run the first Digital Mash event and we look forward to a great night full of ideas, energy and action."
This is not a one-off event - interested parties would then form part of a group who play a key role in the development of V&A at Dundee Digital, meeting virtually - and over coffee - on a regular basis, and more formally as required.
V&A at Dundee Digital Mash is free but capacity is limited - spaces can be registered via Eventbrite. www.northeastofnorth.com.
