Biosciences and Digital Media join for 'molecules, models, memory and mobiles'
Tayside is established as an internationally renowned centre of excellence in both Biosciences and Digital Media development. This week both sectors will come together to learn more about each other and discuss opportunities to collaborate.
Key representatives from across both sectors - gathered from the private sector and Dundee's two universities - will gather on Thursday November 15th at the Hannah Maclure Centre at the University of Abertay Dundee to explore new connections that could bolster business development.
Will Dawson, convener of Dundee City Council's city development committee said, "Dundee is renowned across the globe for our strength in digital media and life sciences. Increasingly work has been going on to try to develop closer links between these two major players in the city and the wider region to discover ways that they can provide further opportunities for growth for each other.
"Clearly the city is known for producing computer games but our strengths in the digital media field are deeper and wider than that and there may be all sorts of possibilities for the future by linking various activities currently going on."
The 'Molecules, Models, Memory and Mobiles' event is open to anyone working in the local digital media or life and medical sciences sectors, whether in the private or public sector. It has been organised by BioDundee and Interactive Tayside.
Among the keynote speakers is Professor Andrew Morris, Chief Scientist at the Scottish Government Health Directorates and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Dundee.
"Dundee is one of the leading centres for e-health and is making significant advances in data capture and analysis from the clinic to the laboratory. We have a great team here that spans the support from the citizens of Tayside, to exceptionally talented individuals in NHS Tayside, to clinicians and basic scientists at the Universities in Dundee," said Professor Morris. "This has created a unique ecosystem in Dundee so it makes absolute sense for us to share what we are doing and see how we can work together more in the future."
Mark Grossi, Vice-President Consumer Labs for NCR and a member of the University of Abertay Court, said, "Industry is always looking for opportunities to leverage innovation in order to differentiate products and solutions. Crossing the boundaries of industries such as biosciences and digital media could open new approaches and possibilities to solve problems in each other's domain."
The takes place from 8.30am on Thursday November 15th. Any interested parties who wish to take part can still register at: http://modelsmoleculesmemorymobiles.eventbrite.co.uk.
