Computing Degree Show 2012 - May 2nd to June 3rd
Whether you are in a holiday mood and want to try an Agile Holiday Booking System, want to know more about fencing events before the London Olympics or would like to see how a Microsoft Kinect could be used as a virtual receptionist system, the Computing Degree Show 2012 at the University of Dundee has it all.
The Computing Degree Show is an annual showcase of the creative talent of over 40 new and emerging software engineers, developers, interaction designers, programmers and entrepreneurs. For employers and headhunters, it's a great chance to do some talent-spotting and potential recruiting of the finest graduate talent. This year's show is a great opportunity to have a taste of Computing at the University of Dundee, number 1 in the UK for student experience according to Times Higher Education.
Dr Janet Hughes, Dean and Head of the School of Computing, said, "The first degree show here in the Queen Mother Building was 2009; ever since, it has been getting bigger and bigger and the projects keep on getting better and better. Projects that students are showcasing this year have pushed the bar even higher. The wide range of projects from music and health to space and data mining represent well the wide variety of routes that students can explore while they study here.
"It is great to see that our belief that students from all backgrounds can innovate to integrate technology and creativity so impressively, with results as interesting as a Satellite Designer and Simulator, Constraint Reflazer, and NOT email! No matter if you are a programmer or a developer wanting to make a difference, you will enjoy this show.
"As a School we are extremely proud of each and every one of our students and look forward to welcoming families and members of the public to view the fruit of their intensive work at School of Computing."
This year the degree show will display the finest undergraduate work. The main show takes place on Wednesday May 2nd in the Queen Mother Building from 4pm to 6pm. All of the exibits from the CDS2012 students will then remain open to the public until June 3rd and all are welcome to come and see them and interact with the projects.
Dr Keith Edwards, Honours Project coordinator, said, "The projects on display in the Degree Show demonstrate the continuing high standard of the students graduating from the School of Computing at the University of Dundee. Already a substantial number of our students have jobs waiting for them when they graduate, reflecting the fact that the curriculum we deliver provides students with the skill set required in the digital economy. For local businesses and headhunters, this show is a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the innovative and groundbreaking work produced by our graduates."
Emma Coutts, one of this year's graduating students, said, "After three really lovely years studying as an undergraduate at the university, I am excited to have nearly have finished my honours project which I have enjoyed thoroughly. I am slightly apprehensive about the degree show but excited to showcase my hard work over the past months. My honours project has given me the opportunity to put into practice and develop further a whole range of skills of which I am really looking forward to using in my new job."
The CDS2012 presents the results of project work by undergraduates on the University of Dundee School of Computing course: BSc (Hons) Applied Computing.
