TEG team show up well in competition
A student team from the University of Dundee has been named runner-up in a UK-wide enterprise competition.
The team, all members of The Enterprise Gym (TEG) initiative at the University, finished second in the Red Rose Business Weekend. The four-person Dundee side will share £200 prize money from the competition, which featured some of the brightest and most ambitious students from 10 universities.
Sumayya Hasan (27), originally from Pakistan, Sadiah Mir (21), from Edinburgh, Anya McKenna (21), from Aberdeen, and 21-year-old Andrew Ng from Edinburgh took part in the competition, which was held at Lancaster University.
The Red Rose Business Weekend featured a number of events, including the business competition for students. They were challenged to complete a number of tasks, each of them covering a different business area to test and demonstrate their versatility.
The tasks were prepared by the sponsors, who included leading global companies such as IBM and Saatchi & Saatchi. Participants were then required to present their results in front of a panel of judges, including representatives of competition sponsors.
Neil Bowie, Enterprise Educator at TEG, congratulated the students on their achievements, saying, "Sumayya, Sadiah, Anya and Andrew should be very proud of themselves.
"Competition was stiff, and teams from the UK had to apply to be one of the 10 who were given places at the Red Rose Business Weekend. Throughout their time with us at TEG, they have shown great awareness and aptitude for business and this will have stood them in good stead in the competition."
More information about TEG is available at www.enterprise-gym.co.uk.
The students' travel was sponsored by the University's School of Business. Three of the team members study on School of Business programmes.
